Are You the Next Chamberlain Scholar?
Each year, AFP International offers the Chamberlain Scholarship to assist an outstanding AFP member(s) who has never before attended an AFP International Conference. The Conference brings more than 4,000 fundraising professionals together to discuss, teach, and learn about new development issues. It offers more than 150 educational sessions designed to serve the development needs of participants from entry level to highly experienced. This year the conference is in New Orleans: April 15-17, 2018.
AFP Golden Gate is committed
to equity, diversity and inclusion, and in awarding the Chamberlain
Scholarship, we seek to support AFP members who share the same
commitment. We hope that Chamberlain Scholars endeavor to represent the
Bay Area and AFP Golden Gate's commitment to equity, diversity and
inclusion during and after the conference.
AFP Golden Gate invites members to apply for the 2018 Chamberlain Scholarship. A committee composed of past Chamberlain Scholars will select the Scholar based on the following criteria, which are established by the AFP Foundation for Philanthropy:
- Candidate is employed as a fundraising professional or, if candidate is an executive director, a substantial amount of time must be devoted to fundraising.
- Candidate has never attended an AFP (or NSFRE) International Conference on Fundraising as a registered participant (unless as a member of the Conference Host Committee).
- Candidate agrees to complete a post-conference online evaluation regarding his or her experience for the Scholarship Committee.
The AFP Foundation for Philanthropy sponsors the Chamberlain Scholarship Program to help individuals serving nonprofit organizations develop their knowledge and skill in fundraising. AFP Chapters may name their grant recipient(s) per year. The AFP Foundation for Philanthropy will cover the registration fee (valued over $700) for Chamberlain Scholars (Note: Scholars are responsible for a $10 payment to secure the registration). AFP Golden Gate will reimburse travel and lodging costs up to $1000. The Scholar is responsible for registering themselves for the conference and for making all travel and lodging arrangements.
Applications are due by October 10, 2017.

The Chamberlain Scholarship Program honors Ralph Chamberlain, CFRE, a long-time fundraiser and supporter of AFP. Mr. Chamberlain helped to form one of the organization’s first chapters, the Greater New York Chapter and served as both chair of the association and the foundation. Because of his long-time support of the Foundation for Philanthropy, the AFP Board of Directors renamed the Conference Scholar Program in 2000 to honor Mr. Chamberlain’s memory and commitment to the fundraising profession.
