The Chapter's Membership Scholarship Fund

AFP Golden Gate’s mission is to promote philanthropy and support the effective and ethical work of the diverse community of Bay Area fundraising professionals.

We are committed to creating a culture of inclusion, one which reflects the breadth and depth of our experiences, perspectives and backgrounds, creates the conditions for our best possible thinking and ideas to emerge, and supports us to take on leadership related to accessing opportunities and solving challenges in our profession.

The importance of making our field reflect the socioeconomic, racial, and gender diversity of the communities we’re a part of — and that many of our organizations serve — cannot be understated.

To help realize this vision we created a scholarship fund, focused on promoting membership among two groups: Development leaders of color and leaders from smaller nonprofits ($5m and below) who do not have the budget to support their professional development and “Emerging Leaders”: young professionals (31-35) to help with the transition to full membership fees. The scholarships available are $250 and $100, respectively.

Our goal with these scholarships is to help support and advance full-time development professionals* whose experiences, backgrounds, and perspectives reflect the diversity of the communities we live and serve in the Bay Area. To be considered for the scholarship, application must include:

  • Demographic information and organizational information
  • Articulate desire for scholarship and what they hope to get out of their membership (including the programs they are most interested in attending)
  • Fill out Volunteer Interest form, with encouragement to join a committee and/or volunteer
  • Must attend at least one AFP event
  • Participate in post-scholarship survey

*Consultants are not eligible.

The Chamberlain application process is typically announced in late summer, with application deadline by October 15th. The chapter Membership Committee selects the recipient. The conference is typically held in March or April.
